Chart legend
In the Charts tab, dashboards, and reports, charts come with a configurable legend that shows additional metadata of the visible runs.
Choose the legend type
By default, charts use the floating legend.
To change the chart legend type:
-
Expand the user menu.
-
Next to your username, select Edit.
-
Under Preferences, enable or disable Bottom-attached legend.
Attached legend
The attached legend is pinned to the bottom of the chart and displayed for all charts in your current view.
Floating legend
To view the floating legend, hover over a chart.
You can modify the floating legend in the following ways:
- To freeze the legend in place, left click while hovering over the chart or click Pin.
- To resize the legend, click and drag its bottom or right-side border.
Add attributes
Pinned columns are automatically displayed in a chart legend. To include additional attributes in the chart legend:
- In the rightmost column of the legend, click Add.
- From the dropdown, select attributes to display or use regex.
Note that the legend configuration applies to all charts within a project.
To locate values among the added columns, use the search .
Multi-metric legend
In dashboards and reports, you can configure a chart widget to display multiple metrics at once. In such charts, each metric is represented by a differently styled line that you can verify in the chart legend. For better visibility, the legend also separates the metrics and groups the runs.
In reports, you can also customize the way chart widgets display metadata. For details, see Change display options.
Analyzing data points
When you hover over a chart, the X-axis marker tries to match a data point closest to your cursor's position. The chart legend uses the following symbols to indicate how the match was made:
Symbol | Description |
---|---|
none | Exact match. This value was logged for the X-axis point that you hover over. |
Approximate value, interpolated based on the values of the surrounding points that have been logged. The tilde symbol also appears next to a value that represents an aggregation of points caused by the rendering algorithm, even if it's also an exact match. |
